Charliesa Orange has been named as the STAR Student for the 2013-2014 school year by the Mississippi Economic Council's M. B. Swayze Foundation. The Broad Street High School senior will be honored during the annual Education Celebration on April 10 at the Jackson Convention Center in downtown Jackson. STAR Students are selected on the basis of academic excellence. Both American College Test scores and scholastic averages are compared to determine the school's STAR Student. Each STAR Student is asked to designate a STAR Teacher, the teacher who has made the greatest contribution to the student's scholastic achievement. Ms. Stephanie Thomas was designated this year's STAR Teacher. Ms. Thomas is a twelve-year veteran social studies teacher and has taught at Broad Street High School for nine years. Over 500 STAR Students and STAR Teachers will receive recognition at this year's Education Celebration. Charliesa plans to attend The University of Mississippi this fall.
